New Year's Eve 2023 in Barcelona

Leisure 20/12/2023
None

Tick-tock, tick-tock, ... everything is ready to say goodbye to this year 2023 and welcome the new one, putting dreams, hopes, desires and purposes on our wish list.

Barcelona is one of the main European destinations for parties and celebrations and the ideal place to celebrate this transition, fulfilling all the traditions, enjoying good dinners and subsequent parties and waking up in 2024 ready for it to be better than the last.

But, what are the plans, traditions and festivities that you should not miss?

PLANS

  • Plaça d'Espanya. Without a doubt, the most emblematic place to move from 2023 to 2024. From the Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina you will be greeted with an impressive fireworks show, (they say that this year it will be even bigger and better). Due to the drought decree, the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc will not be able to be part of the show.

  • Poble Espanyol. This place, already magical all year round, includes three covered venues with live concerts and lots of drinks. There will be grapes, party favors, drinks and good music until 6 in the morning. The normal ticket price is €35 (for the first 500 tickets), €40 until December 26 and €45 from December 27. There are also VIP tickets that range from €60 (advance) to €80 if you buy it at the box office.

  • Agbar Tower. This famous monument will dress up offering a colorful light show.

  • Plaça Catalunya. It is a classic to welcome the new year in this central square that will welcome hundreds of Barcelonans and tourists and which serves as a strategic point to connect with many bars, pubs or clubs that offer great parties.

TRADITIONS

What are the essentials to enter the new year with great luck?

  • Red lingerie . Whether you are superstitious or not, don't forget to wear a piece of red lingerie for the first time. The color red symbolizes "happiness, passion, success and good fortune" and if we add some more wishes, we can now toast the new year.

  • 12 grapes . The custom is to take twelve grapes with each of the 12 bells that announce the new year and symbolize the 12 months of the year. Whoever achieves it, so tradition says, will have a year full of success and good luck. If you don't know this tradition and want to start this year, we recommend practicing a little, because it is more difficult than it seems.

  • Gold in the glass of cava. To round out the customs, many superstitious people put a ring or a piece of gold inside the glass to toast, to attract money and economic well-being.

  • Churros with chocolate. There is nothing better than starting the year, after finishing the party, and before returning home, than replenishing your strength with a comforting breakfast at any of the churrerías in Barcelona.

PARTIES AND SHOWS

Barcelona has endless offers to celebrate the new year as it deserves. Many of Barcelona's nightclubs are located in Vila Olímpica, where the nightlife is as active as the daytime; Many of the most popular clubs in Barcelona are located here, such as Opium, Pacha, Shôko or Catwalk.

We advise you to buy tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
